Cisco ISE as NAC Solution

Project Overview:
This was my first major project, where I was entrusted with managing and running the customer network over Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) as a Network Access Control (NAC) solution. The project involved providing 24/7 support and ensuring the smooth functioning of the ISE solution, which was deployed in a standalone environment.

Responsibilities & Key Activities:

  • User and Device Authentication Support: As part of the L1 & L2 Support, I addressed user and device-level authentication issues, ensuring that access was granted securely and efficiently across the network.

  • Cisco ISE Management: I was responsible for the day-to-day management and monitoring of the ISE solution, which included tasks such as:

    • MAC Bypass Whitelisting: Ensured that trusted devices could bypass authentication without compromising security.

    • Network Device Integration: Handled the integration of various network devices, ensuring seamless communication between the ISE solution and the customer’s infrastructure.

    • Health Checks & Maintenance: Performed regular health checks to monitor the status of the ISE deployment and resolve any operational issues that arose.

    • Issue Resolution: Acted as the first point of contact for any issues related to user or device access, working to identify and resolve problems quickly to minimize downtime.

    • Customer Interaction: Worked closely with the customer’s team, ensuring their network infrastructure was fully optimized and secure, delivering high-quality service support.​

Cisco ISE Management for L'Oréal Paris (Global Support)

Role: Cybersecurity Consultant (L2 Support for Cisco ISE, L1 Support for Other Security Products)

Project Overview:
As part of the global cybersecurity team, I was responsible for managing and supporting the deployment of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) across three major regions: EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), AMER (Americas), and APAC (Asia-Pacific) for L'Oréal Paris. This involved providing continuous 24/7 support and ensuring the smooth operation of Cisco ISE along with other security products in their IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities & Key Activities:

  • Cisco ISE Management (L2 Support):

    • Managed Cisco ISE across three global regions, ensuring seamless network access control and identity management.

    • Responsible for ISE upgradation and patching, ensuring the system was up-to-date and secure against vulnerabilities.

    • Led day-to-day troubleshooting activities, addressing issues related to both RADIUS and TACACS protocols, ensuring minimal disruption to the client’s operations.

    • Worked with a global team to resolve network authentication and access issues in real-time, prioritizing security and uptime.

  • Support for Other Security Products (L1 Support):

    • Provided L1 support for other critical security products, including Zscaler Proxy and Firewalls, ensuring the customer’s broader security infrastructure remained secure and operational.

    • Collaborated closely with senior team members to deliver a cohesive security strategy for the organization, responding to issues and troubleshooting promptly.

  • Global Coordination & 24/7 Support:

    • Worked across EMEA, AMER, and APAC time zones, ensuring round-the-clock support for L'Oréal Paris, guaranteeing that all regions received timely assistance and minimal disruption.

    • Provided direct technical support during key business hours in all regions, adhering to strict SLAs and maintaining consistent service quality.

    • No SLA breaches or escalations occurred during my tenure, showcasing my commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.

Thomson Reuters

Security Analyst

Project: Cisco ISE Management for Thomson Reuters (Enterprise & DC Center Infrastructure)

Role: Cybersecurity Consultant

Duration: March 2023 - July 2024

Project Overview:
I was responsible for managing the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for Thomson Reuters, overseeing both their Enterprise and Data Center (DC) Infrastructure. My primary focus was ensuring secure network access control and managing other Cisco products such as Cisco CSPC (Cisco Smart Playbook Console) to support seamless operations across the enterprise network.

Responsibilities & Key Activities:

  • Cisco ISE Management:

    • Managed the Cisco ISE deployment for enterprise and data center environments, ensuring robust authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) mechanisms.

    • Led discussions for Change Advisory Board (CAB) changes related to Cisco ISE, evaluating the impact and planning necessary updates, patches, and upgrades.

    • Created and enforced new policies within Cisco ISE for device addition and network access control, ensuring strict security measures were in place for new devices and network changes.

  • Device and Policy Management:

    • Responsible for adding new devices to the ISE platform, ensuring proper configuration and integration with the existing infrastructure.

    • Developed and tested new authentication and authorization policies, ensuring seamless network access and security for users and devices across the infrastructure.

  • Patching & Certificate Management:

    • Oversaw patching activities to ensure the Cisco ISE system was up to date with the latest security patches and features.

    • Managed certificate renewals for Cisco ISE and other associated products, ensuring uninterrupted service and compliance with security standards.

  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:

    • Led troubleshooting efforts for issues related to ISE connectivity, authentication failures, and policy misconfigurations, providing timely resolution within stipulated timelines.

    • Worked in close coordination with cross-functional teams to resolve incidents and maintain smooth operations.

Reliance JIO

Technical Manager

Network Planning and Architecture

Duration: (July 2024 - April 2025)

As a Technical Manager in the Network Planning and Architecture team at Reliance Jio, I oversee the management and operation of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) across 60 nodes PAN India. My role demands a high level of responsibility and technical expertise to ensure the secure and seamless functionality of the AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting) protocol that supports our extensive network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cisco ISE Management: Spearheaded the management of Cisco ISE with 60 nodes distributed nationwide, ensuring stable operations and handling of security protocols critical to the functioning of Reliance Jio’s network.

  • Upgradation and Expansion: Led the efforts in upgrading and expanding the Cisco ISE infrastructure, aligning it with the latest security and scalability standards to meet the evolving needs of a large-scale telecom network.

  • Bug and Vulnerability Detection: Actively involved in identifying, diagnosing, and mitigating bugs and vulnerabilities, ensuring the platform’s security posture remained strong and minimizing potential risks to the network’s integrity.

  • AAA Protocol Integrity: Ensured that the AAA protocol ran smoothly across the network by troubleshooting and resolving any issues that could lead to critical impacts on network access and authentication processes.

  • Collaboration and Leadership: Worked closely with cross-functional teams to align network architecture and security requirements, while leading a team of technical specialists to deliver solutions on time and within scope.

  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitored system performance, conducted regular health checks, and implemented proactive measures to optimize ISE nodes, ensuring high availability and consistent uptime across the network.

Impact & Achievements:

  • Successfully led the ISE upgrade project, improving network security and operational efficiency with minimal downtime.

  • Played a key role in identifying and mitigating critical vulnerabilities that could have posed a risk to the network, enhancing the security and trustworthiness of our AAA framework.

  • Enhanced overall network stability by troubleshooting and resolving complex issues, leading to improved user access and authentication times.

In this role, my primary focus is ensuring that our network’s identity and access management system remains secure, scalable, and capable of handling Reliance Jio's expanding user base while proactively mitigating any potential risks.
